DESIRE // LENT D::27

[ READING :: Psalm 38 ]

"All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes."

Meditation ::.

It is in the desert of Lent, when you are saying "no" to some of the things that are more obvious—surface level distractions—that the real desires begin to bubble to the surface. It is these desires that our Lenten journey of fasting, self denial and self examination brings into the light. And it is these desire that we wish to give over to the Lord so that they don’t dominate us like a bridle dominates a horse. Because if we let it, that is exactly how desire will function in our lives. Because desire is who we are just as much as what we have.

? What are the longings, the desire that are bubbling to the surface for you this Lent ?
