Thoughts for the day & Jesus taking us further…

Well I was doing my daily reading that to often isn’t daily and was just reading around Matt. 6 (which was my reading for the day) and read Matthew 5:38-48, it goes like this…

"You have heard it said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you. Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you. “You have heard it said ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate you enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love tohs who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do that same? And if you greet only your brother and sister, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly father is perfect."

It seems that Jesus always takes us further…

Jesus is always calling us into places that we would not go on our own, that we would not enter under our own understanding. But these hard places are the very places he is going and are the very places he is leading us to go. I think my primary goal in life is to figure out how to liven out these teaching of Jesus. Jesus keeps saying, “You have heard it said… but I say to you…” He keeps taking us further than our previous understanding, than our current places of comfort.

Jesus continues to draw us to himself and that is a scary place but also a holy place!
