Simple question…

I am reading this book Irresistible Revolution. It’s really good so far (all 2 chapters so far). But I am wondering, are we all called to live with homeless people? I have a keen awareness that I should somehow love and serve those who have less than I but are we all “suppose” to go live with homeless people, spend a night or 2 a week in the inner city or at the shelter or something like that? Are you only excluded if you live in small town American where maybe there is not homeless? Or are you really even exempt then?

It does seem that Jesus goes to the less fortunate; the widow, orphan, and wonderer and maybe if we are really following Jesus we will end up along side those people, the “less fortunate” (whatever that means).

But does Jesus lead ALL of us there? I am not trying to make myself feel better because I don’t hang out with homeless people and I am not trying to let you off the hook for crossing the street because you see a guy with a cup on the side of the street you currently walk. I am just asking an honest question. What do you think?
